From the Captain of the Fleet:

“Our thanks to John Bowman for a very interesting slide show and presentation on the Channel Islands. His knowledgeable comments on the various anchorages at both Santa Barbara Island and the other Channel Islands created a high level of interest for our group. While some of our members have been to some of these islands, many have not, and the presentation, judging by the questions, may result in some of our members sailing to new destinations.

“Our members brought a very appealing variety of food for our Pot Luck dinner, and as Mary Ann Mendel said “it’s always amazing how well this works out”

No meeting in April

“Since our normal meeting date for April would fall on the 15th, {Income Tax Due Day, as you well know) your board felt many members might be occupied in other activities, so we choose to pass on this meeting. Our next activity is The Catalina Factory Tour and Dinner on Thursday, May 22nd.  We will not have a meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of May. The factory tour is an interesting event, and even if you have seen it before, there are always changes and new activities to see. Dinner will be at a local restaurant following the tour.”

Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club Opening Day

“The yacht club wishes to thank those people who helped prepare the food for their opening day. Thanks to Chuck and Kay Russell, John Celick, Al and Lisa Casal, and Fay Stevens.”                                                                                                                                         Your Fleet Captain, Hal Avery

Membership Note: New Member

I overlooked telling you about a new member that joined recently… sorry.

Please welcome Paul and Vicki DeLuca, they have a Catalina 34 named Salsera. A “salsera” is a female salsa dancer which is a really cool boat name.

Membership Chairperson: Gisela Dawson

Tech Tip: Stocking the Boat for the Trip

Several people have spotted the checklist I have for each trip we make and have asked me about it. I did this out of self preservation from the inevitable remark from my spouse that goes like this: “Honey, did you remember to bring the (you fill in the blank)?” The most memorable one was when I forgot to bring the bedding… ugh! I have the attached “master list” which is in Word and I update it for each trip, print it out and conduct a brief inventory. Then, I use the list of items (not crossed out as already aboard) as my shopping list. If you’d like a Word .doc copy of this list so you can customize it for your own purposes I’ll send it to you.
