Catalina 36 Santa Monica Bay—Fleet #1

April  2002

From the Captain of the Fleet:

“Our March meeting was dedicated to Bill Felgenhauer’s 70th surprise birthday party. Bill is the owner and founder of Garhauer which supplies a huge percentage of the hardware on all new Catalinas. Bill has been an avid supporter of our Fleet. Thanks to Norm and Charlene Perron for planning and organizing the event. Bill is getting a new Catalina 350, hull #1, and Norm organized the acquisition of a Honda generator as a present. Bill was genuinely pleased and surprised.

“I attended the February Rendezvous organizing meeting and will be going to the next one on Thursday the 21st. I volunteered the Fleet to handle registration as we did last year. There is a major improvement being worked on (I hope it will happen) that would include shore boat tickets for Saturday as part of our packets. The members that attended last year will remember that the dinghy dock was a disaster. It could be as bad or worse this year because the weekend of the Rendezvous is also the weekend many will return home from the MdR to San Diego race. I'll keep you informed.

“See you at Norm's "Show and Tell" cruise on the 14th of April. If you can’t bring your boat, drive or dinghy on over.”

Your Fleet Captain, Gene Levinthal

Our Next Event:  Norm's Very Short Cruise and  "Show-n-Tell" on

Sunday, April 14t, at MdR Guest Docks

It's time for Norm's Very Short Cruise and "Show-n-Tell" this Sunday, April 14th, at the Guest Docks at Burton Chace Park in MdR. I know you all have your taxes filed so it is a good time to clean-up the boat on Saturday and show-off your work on Sunday.

We should have 6 to 10 boats to look at, so even if you can't bring your boat, come anyway... drive over and park in the Burton Chace visitors lot (bring quarters for the parking meters). Burton Chace Park is at the end of Mindanao Way and the parking is to the left as you approach the park.

Every year people are surprised by the amount of good food available and even some adult beverage consumption that occurs... so bring some snacks to share and your own refreshments.  Norm says there will be folks at the dock from 11am on to help you dock. The earlier you get there, the better place you'll get at the guest docks. This year they have asked us to use the long dock near the "Bass Cage.
